Whole Earth Review, “Access to Tools & Ideas” was a magazine founded in January 1985 after the merger of the Whole Earth Software Review and the CoEvolution Quarterly. All of these periodicals are descendants of Stewart Brand's Whole Earth Catalog.
The last published hard copy issue of the magazine was the Winter 2002 issue. The next issue was planned but never published in hard copy format.
Recurring themes in the magazine are the commons (i.e. community, geographical areas, institutions, etc), the tragedy of the commons, environment, alternative technologies, sustainability, sub-culture & more.
Each issue has black and white interior pages & full of information.
