Current Art Book Fair, Richmond, March 31, 2018

Excited to be participating in the Current Art Book Fair in Richmond, VA on March 31, 2018.  "CURRENT Books will showcase high-quality works by art book publishers, artists, writers, and artist collectives who produce print media including artists' books, monographs, and zines. CURRENT Books will highlight regional makers from Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, and North Carolina, and give them a platform to exhibit and sell their work."

Taking place at Studio Two Three at 3300 W. Clay Street, on March 31 from 12-8pm, with a preview brunch at 11am.  We will also be a part of a panel talk on the topic of 'Publishing as Curation' on the evening of Friday, March 30 from 7-9pm moderated by Don Russell, the Executive Director of Provisions Library, a research center for arts and social change based out of George Mason University.

Long-term Installation at Lump Gallery, Raleigh opening February 2, 6-9pm

Excited to have a long-term installation in the back corner at Lump Gallery in Raleigh, opening Friday, February 2 from 6-9pm. Come by and browse through the newsstand or buy online and pick up at Lump!  Open during gallery hours.

Opening the same night is an exhibit by Becky Flanders: PAIN BODIES: Political resistance and the accumulation of psychic pain

Becky Flanders is an artist and entrepreneur based in Tampa, FL. Born in the Washington DC area in 1980, she received her BS in Artificial Life and the Digital Arts from UMBC in 2002, and her MFA in Photography from USF in 2009. She is a leading member of the photography collective Fountain of Pythons, and a member of the all-female curatorial collective CUNSTHAUS. Her work has been exhibited from Miami to Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Japan, and Australia. Her works have recently been accepted into the permanent collection of the Kinsey Institute.  Her focuses are the mythic feminine, transcendent and ecstatic states, sex positivity, and the   relationship between subjects and states.

pop up: Guest Room Project Space, January 20, 5-9pm

Next pop up will take place at Guest Room Project Space in Carrboro on January 20th, 5-9pm. Details below of the corresponding event:

Guest Room Project Space is happy to present Thomas Dexter's Ham-Slicer Assemblage: An Extended Cinema Performance, in coordination with the opening of an exhibition titled APEL, a part of The Wrong Biennial

Dexter’s performance acts as a preview of Cosmic Rays Film Festival, coming to the Varsity Theater in Chapel Hill on March 1-2, 2018. 

Doors open at 5:00 pm to view APEL. Dexter's performance will start at 7:00 pm.

Thomas Dexter is an NYC-based artist working within the language of cinema. Dexter’s solo and collaborative projects have been exhibited, screened, and performed at venues internationally, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Microscope Gallery, Experimental Intermedia, PS1/MOMA, Roulette, The New York Museum of Art and Design, Sight and Sound Festival, Issue Project Room, the Mononoaware Festival, The Lesley Heller Workspace, The Invisible Dog, and in collaboration with ESP-TV among others.

APEL, also called "Super. New. Wireless. Magical. Perfect." is curated by Andy Berner and includes the artists: Alice Maitre (Pairs), Erin Mitchell (Berlin), Filipe Matos (Lisbon), Maya Ben David (Toronto), Mit Borras (Madrid), Olivier Hodasava (Paris), Punk is Dada (Berlin), Rachel Lamot (Madrid), Seth Kranzler (New York City), Shohei Fujimoto (Tokyo).

Location: 106 Glass House Lane, Carrboro, North Carolina, USA. Google maps doesn't find them yet, so drive to 98 South Peak Drive and the gravel driveway is on your left.  By appointment only, unless they are hosting an opening or event.

pop up: The Durham Patchwork Market January 6 at Fullsteam Brewery

Our next pop up event will be January 6, 12- 4pm at Fullsteam Brewery during The Durham Patchwork Market

The Durham Patchwork Market began in late 2014 to create a space for local vendors and creatives to sell their goods to the community. Held monthly, the Patchwork Market has been a consistent event the first Saturday of each month indoors at Fullsteam Brewery.

Lump Gallery pop up during First Friday, December 1

The Concern Newsstand will pop up next at Lump Gallery in Raleigh during First Friday on December 1 from 6-9pm.

The same night will be the opening on one side of the gallery for Bill Brown and his piece, Moving Pictures, part of the show entitled Analog Playhouse.

On the other side of the gallery will be a piece up by Jeff Bell, called Night, Day, Night for the last night.

Art Basil 2017

The Concern Newsstand's next pop up will be at Art Basil 2017, hosted by Bowbarr in Carrboro, NC on Saturday, November 25 from 6pm on.

Guest dj's Mister Fister (Bill Thelen) and Blowing Rock (Harrison Haynes) will be playing tunes and Jerstin Crosby will be doing visuals.  Come enjoy palate cleansing basil cocktails post- Thanksgiving!  Do some early holiday shopping!
